Ghirahim walked up the stairs ,pausing only to fix his clothes.
He straightened his short red shawl ,re attaching the chain to the golden diamonds on ether side.
His white body suit looked fine though he re adjusted the red fabric that went from his lower abdomen a little past his waist, the yellow belt looked nice and straight ,the red diamond still locked.
On his pants was a line of small red diamonds trailing down and disappearing into his white boots.

"Ghirahim," Link waved over to his friend smiling.
"My apologise Link, though in all fairness my being late is excusable from retrieving mia off the roof..again."
Link smiled guiltily ,"thanks.. But it's Big day today isn't it. I know you'll win."

Ghirahim smiled, "Of course! it is expected me, and I wouldn't wish to disappoint the prince now would I."
Ghirahim winked at the boy beside him, he knew Link didn't like the title prince, though he technically was considering his father was the headmaster of Skyloft.
"What were you playing just now?" Ghirahim asks, changing the subject.
"Balled of the god , I wanted to practice. I've been asked to stand in the place of the god Hyrule!"

Ghirahim was amused at how proud the boy seemed, he made a great god even in his everyday clothes.
"Congratulations. Must meet you on the God Statue."
"I wanted you to be the first to know! But you should probably head down to the main square, just to be sure your not late and you did practice didn't you?"

Ghirahim laughed, "Link I shall be fine, I still have time to spare."
Link pulled Ghirahim towards the stairs ,"I know but I want you to be as ready as possible, please Ghirahim, for me will you head down early."
Rolling his eye's Ghirahim surrendered, ruffling the boys hair as he went ," I presume you will meet me soon?"
Link nodded and waved to his friend before going back to his harp.

Getting to town was easy, and of course Ghirahim was early ,wandering around the main square till he saw the person that always made his stomach churn with disgust, Groose.
His 'friends' if you could even call them that were rubbing his shoulders as if something big was going to happen..or already did.

"- Crimson Loftwing was going to go down without a fight? But we got him and I don't care how tough those birds are supposed to be. He's not getting out of that pen any time soon boys," Groose smiled stupidly.
Getting up Groose pushed away from the boys, cracking his shoulders.
Cawlin and Stitch saw Ghirahim making them jump back in surprise, nervousness clear on their faces before Groose turned.

"Whoa! Omega! So, uh...yeah. Just how long  you been standing there?"
"Long enough," Ghirahim growled.
It was clear they had done something to his bird and he was determined to find out what.
Groose looked taken back, recovering after a moment, starting to circle Ghirahim .

"I know why your here," he smirked. "Your here to beg me to fluke the race today, your little brain is saying 'Oh please Groose, find it in your heart to let me win today? Please'  your just desperate to win some 'Alone Time' with Link  up on the statue of the god at the end of the ceremony. Well sorry Pal, Groose doesn't do charity to wimps like you-"
Ghirahim smirked as Groose's overlarge body hit the pavement with a thud, sliding his foot back to his side he placed his hand on his hip.

"If I wanted 'alone time with Link, all I would have to do is ask," flipping a stray hair back in place ," now tell me where you placed my bird so I can rid you from my view, the sight of your appalling hair makes my gorge rise."
Groose pushed himself angrily off the ground ," You lay off my do right now, or I'll flatten you. Everyone knows I've the slickest pompadour in town."

"You know, we are all tired of how you never let anyone forget you and Link go way back. You've been friends since you were kids big deal."
"Apparently  it is to you."
Groose glared but continued on.
"Dopes like you are dragging our academy through the mud! You talk about my Pompadour badly, yet my hair doesn't hide a deformity!" Groose ruffled my hair back, reviling my rounded ear.
Pushing him away, Ghirahim quickly concealed the ear once more under his hair.
"I am most certain it does. though other's may call it a brain, I in fact presume it to be more as a thumbtack if anything at all."

Groose fumed, gripping Ghirahim's red shawl tightly.
"Leave Ghirahim alone Groose!"
Link raced over to aid his friend.
"Uh, oh Link...I um.." Letting go of the shawl Ghirahim flattening the wrinkles.
"Why do you bully him so much?!  He's just as good of a student as you!"

"Yeah...I suppose..." Groose answered as if in a daze.
Ghirahim could almost feel the desperation for acknowledgment flowing off of him.
"Whatever, forget it. Im out of here."
Crawlin and Stitch followed close behind Groose as he  walked away to the platform.
"Oh, hope you find your bird Ghirahim," he smirked making Ghirahim blood boil ."It would be a shame for you to sit out today."

"Your bird? What happened Ghirahim?"
Links worried eye's looked up at his friend, worried for him.
"Link it shall be fine. Even with my bird missing I shan't break my promise."
Link wasn't so sure, he wasn't to believe in Ghirahim but the race was in half an hour, not nearly enough time..
"Alright, but I am still going to inform my father about what happened, maybe he'll convince Professor Owlen to hold back the ceremony a bit till you find your bird."

Ghirahim smiled ,"Thank you Link."
Link held back a tiny blush ,nodding he ran off to the Academy.
Skyloft wasn't a very large place but there were plenty of nooks and cranny's for someone to hide a bird in.
Sighing, Ghirahim really had his work cut out for him.

"Pipit," Ghirahim spoke to take hold of the attention of the knight in training.
"Hey Ghirahim, how are you today? Aren't you supposed to be in big race today?"
"I am, unfortunately I seem to have..Misplaced... My loftwing, have you by chance seen him?" Ghirahim spoke the words out bitterly.
"That's terrible, no I haven't seen him but I'll help ask around."

Nodding, Ghirahim looked down by the housing, stopping in front of Kukiel.
"Hello Ghirahim," she smiled.
"Good afternoon Kukiel."
"What are you doing Ghirahim?"
Sighing, he looked down at the girl, "I'm looking for my Loftwing."

"Oh, you loft it? I hope you find it. I will ask my special friend about it ok."
Suspecting this 'Special friend' wouldn't do much good outside of her head Ghirahim thanked the girl and continued on the search.
Heading back to the Academy, perhaps one of the other students had seen the bird.
"Ghirahim, I'm glad to have run into you. I heard about the dilemma with your Loftwing, it's so odd for your bird to disappear like that. Anyways I am willing to hold it back until noon, unfortunately thats all I can do ."
"Thank you Professor Owlen."

It was an hour to noon by now and still no sign of Ghirahim's  Loftwing.
Sighing, Ghirahim straightened his hair ,leaning against the ledge .
Surely someone as pathetic as Groose would hide something in a horribly simple place.
It must be right under his nose Ghirahim concluded, rubbed his temples attempting to take away the pounding.
His head snapped up at the sound of Pipits voice, watching as he interrogated the boy Fledge.

"Hey! Ghirahim! Come over here! I have information about your Loftwing!"
Jumping over the ledge, Ghirahim strutted over the two men, one looking fairly guilty.
"Yes?"
"I'm so sorry Ghirahim, I really wanted to tell you, but if Groose found out..."
Raising his hand, stopping the boy from continuing ,"I understand your dilemma but I trust you shall now inform me of the whereabouts of my Loftwing."

"Um..yeah, I over heard Groose talking about capturing your bird and hiding it near a waterfall. I really am sorry Ghirahim..."
"If your going down to the waterfall Ghirahim, you should take a weapon with you in case of monsters. I think I saw the Knight Commander go into the sparring hall a while ago, You should go ask him if you can borrow one!"
Ghirahim smiled, Finally getting somewhere "Thank you both for your assistance."
Turning on his heel, Ghirahim entered the sparring hall, not bothering to talk to the commander for he knew where the training swords were kept.

With the sword now strapped to his back, Ghirahim proceeded to tell the commander about his situation.
"Well as long as you use it with care it should be fine. I don't need anyone getting hurt from my trusting you."
"I understand, thank you."
Walking from the sparring hall Ghirahim wished he could just snap his fingers and he could be at the waterfall, but  one can only dream.

A quick slash to the tree's was all Ghirahim needed to uncover the cave ahead, no real threat lay in the cave, just a few bats and some disgusting looking blobs, needless to say, he made quick business of them.
Finally emerging from the dark and slightly damp cave Ghirahim walked down the side, hearing cries of hid bird.
Those pompous idiots had trapped him in a hole in the wall.
Cutting free the ropes that bound wooden boards, the Loftwing gratefully walked out.
Ghirahim stroked it's beak before it cawed happily and flew off.

"Ghirahim!"
Link landed on the ground beside me, his bird flying off elsewhere.
"Pipit told me you came to find your loftwing here, so  I thought I'd join you. I guess I'm a little late," He chuckled staring away after the bird.

Ghirahim smiled ,"never the less, I appreciate your actions."
As he spoke Link didn't seem to listen, Ghirahim narrowed his eyes, "Link?"
Snapping out of the trance Link smiled guiltily ,"Sorry Ghirahim, got distracted for a moment there."
He didn't want to worry his friend by telling him of the voices he had been hearing in the last little while, it wasn't really saying anything... More so the feeling that came with it, it's like someone was calling to him.

"Well we should hurry back, now that you found your Loftwing I can watch you in the ceremony."
Ghirahim was still slightly concerned ,"before I go tell me what you were thinking before."
Link looked at the clouds ,"have you ever wondered what's below? Almost everyone thinks it's empty, that there is nothing...but.."
Link avoided the question best he could, hoping Ghirahim would accept the answer.

"I was reading some of your father's old textbooks a while back, I ran across a text that spoke of a place called 'The Surface' ,it is supposed to be far greater then Skyloft."
Link's body seemed to tilt towards the edge as he stared ," I bet it would be beautiful..I wish I could see it myself."
Ghirahim stared down ,"Being the first Skyloftians down there, it would be like ruling a new land."
Link suddenly laughed looking back at his friend ,"You would be an amazing Lord down there."
"Every Lord needs a companion ,an angel would have to do, or would you prefer Skychild?"

Link blushed clearing his throat, "We should get back, the Ceremony wont wait forever."
Ghirahim winked ,stepping off of the edge and gracefully  landing on his bird.
"Would the Skychild require a ride or shall you spread your own wings to fly?"
Rolling his eye's Link leapt of the edge ,landing less gracefully on his own bird ,"I can take care myself thank you."
Link was used to Ghirahims ways, he really would make a good lord...

~

"I am going to go inform my father about what happened, I'll see you later Ghirahim." Waving as he ran off .
"Well, well, if It isn't the 'Fabulous' Ghirahim, word on the Plaza is that you found that dumb bird of yours."
Ghirahims was surprised at how fast a good mood could transfer to bitter though he had to remain calm in order to containing his dignity .
"Be silent you Petulant brat, the sound of your voice only brings annoyance."
"You act so high and mighty yet you can't seem to go anywhere without Link! I bet you can't even decide what to have for lunch on your own, huh? And don't think we haven't noticed the smug looks. 'ooh Link and I are BEST friends. We do everything together.' Ugh! You think your pretty suave don't you? Well Don't you?!"

"In fact I do, Though I must applaud you on your acts to compel Link to you, stuttering and fumbling like an idiot is an exhalent way to draw attention ," Ghirahim smiled cockily .
Groose growled his fists clenched at his sides, "Now now, don't get your Pompadour in a ruffle, though perhaps it would make it look more presentable."

Ignoring Ghirahim, Groose continued, " Well I hate to break it to you, but today's the day I bust up this adorable little fantasyland your living in. Link is playing role of the god at the Ceremony today and i'm going to be the one to claim that sailcloth."
"You state I am living in this 'Fantasyland' yet if I am correct it is I who Link calls to when in need and you who swoons from a distance, who now is living in this Fantasyland?"  Ghirahims smile only widened as he could almost feel the fumes emit off of the man.

"Soon it will change! First I win the big race, and then Link and I finish the ceremony together on the statue. Just the two of us... It'll be our special moment alone together." Groose turned around and seemed to go into his own dream world.
Ghirahim would rather choke on a dagger then let that happen, he was confident he would win.
"Pssst! Groose! Behind you!"

"What?! Can't you two see am in the middle-GAH!"
Much to Ghirahims amusement Link was standing there.
"What do you mean 'Our Special Moment Alone'?!"
It was clear the boy was quite flustered, his fists bunched at his sides.

"I...uh...nothing big, really, Just.. Just... Ghirahim, telling my buddy here how glad I was he found that bird of his. Boy am I looking forward to a fare race today! Anyhow, later, Link. Look for me during the race. I'll be the one pulling off all the dangerous moves," Groose strode away, his friends following close behind.
"I for one am shocked he can even land on the bird properly let alone fly it ."
Link smiled, calming down some, "Still, don't get over confident Ghirahim, the chances of Groose playing a fair race are less then zero."

"It is not over confidence that fuels this silly little Skychild, it is the pure thought of that pompous idiot alone with you that I simply would never allow. The only face you will see on the god statue is mine, I swear it."
"I know you can Ghirahim."

"The Wing Ceremony will now begin! Participating students, please assemble!"
"Goodluck  Ghirahim."

~

Standing side by side, Professor Owlen  addressed the students.
"Your Attention, Please. At last we are ready to begin the Wing Ceremony. I was beginning to worry we would have to continue on without Ghirahim, but luckily that is no longer a concern. I am glad you could all make it. Before we start, I'll explain the rules for today's  compaction. I have attached a small statuette  to this bird, who I will then release to the skies. On my signal dash and dive off the edge.
Once you are in the air mount your Loftwing. Whoever catches the bird and claims the statuette will be this years champion. Those are the rules. Simple enough I should think, but does anyone need to hear them again?..... Excellent ,as you well know, today's champion will graduate to the next class, bringing him one step closer to knighthood. He will also receive a gift from the young man chosen to play the role of god in this years ritual.  Today is a special day for many reasons, but it is also the 25th anniversary of our fine institution. To celebrate the occasion, today's champion shall also receive his gift high atop of the god statue. I hear the young man performing the role of god this year crafted the gift himself, And as  you all well know, the role of god this year will be preformed by ..the handsome Link!"

Groose giggled like an idiot beside Ghirahim as the professor continued to speak.
"Lets see your finest flying out there, show me how hard you've all been practicing. Also, I want to see good clean flying. Anyone caught interfering with other riders will answer to me! "
"That Goes Double For You Groose!" The headmaster shouted causing Groose to jump in surprise.
"Alright Gentlemen, At my command, the companion will begin .. GO!"

Ghirahim walked calmly off the edge while the others ran ,He was in no large rush ,the real race was in the sky.
Landing on his loftwing he flew after the yellow bird top speed, avoiding the large chucks of rock he soon caught up with the others.
Putting in an extra burst of energy ,Ghirahim was right behind the bird about to grasp the Statuette.

"Hey! Don't you know it's my day to get all the glory?"
Groose dove in slamming against Ghirahims Loftwing causing him to jolt away from the other bird.
"Yeah, you heard him! Lets see how you fly with egg on your face!" Crawlen shouted, throwing an egg at Ghirahim.

Pulling away at the last second, Ghirahim fumed as the others flew away laughing.
How dare they! Truly intending on throwing something so veil at him it was preposterous!
He had half a mind to show Groose what was beneath the  clouds...
But never mind that ,Ghirahim had a race to win.

Diving after them Ghirahim couldn't seem to catch up, hovering for a moment Ghirahim noted the routine of the Loftwing .
Turning around, Ghirahim headed in the opposite direction, if he was correct he should end up right in front of the bird.
Growling as Crawlen threw another egg at him, Ghirahim just missed the bird but was still close behind.
Groose hastened to catch up, bumping into Ghirahims bird in the process "outta the way Ghirahim!"

'Fuck off' Ghirahim thought bitterly, really getting sick of the red haired boy.
He would never swear out loud, it was most definitely beneath him.
Avoiding the rock on the left, he was barely a foot away from the stupid bird.
With two more bursts of speed Ghirahim leaned over the head of his bird, plucking the Statuette  .
He felt absolutely splendid.

"Ghirahim!"  He saw Link running off the diving platform, Ghirahim raced over, catching the boy in his arms before he could call his own Loftwing.
"Eager to see me?" Link smiled .
"Congratulations Ghirahim, I knew you could do it!"
Resting his head against Ghirahims chest as they flew to the top of the God Statue to continue the ceremony.
Landing ,Ghirahim placed Link on the ground.
"Um..Oh, Ghirahim may I have the Statuette you got in the race, I uh..need to offer it to the god Hyrule."

Smiling Ghirahim handed it to Link, not missing his hand lingering for a moment before turning away and placing the statue on the tiny podium, taking out his harp he slowly played the 'Balled of the god' .
A ,little shaky ,Ghirahim could tell that Link wasn't very confident in his playing, but to Ghirahim it sounded Beautiful.
Placing the harp back at his side Link turned around Offering his hand which Ghirahim happily took, bowing down on one knee .

"Great god Hyrule, guiding Light and Protector of our people, grant us your blessings and mercy as I act in your stead during this ceremony."
Link let out a breath and Ghirahim squeezed his hand a bit for comfort.

"Valiant youth who grasped victory at the calibration of the bird folk... In accordance to the old ways...I now bestow the blessings of the god upon you."
Letting go of his hand ,Ghirahim raised his head to see Link holding out a folded cream coloured cloth with red symbol of the god Hyrule.
"The blessings of the God drift down from the heavens aloft a sail, which I now pass on to you."
Gingerly accepting the sailcloth Ghirahim tucked it away .

Standing up Ghirahim smirked ,"You know they say the god gave the Sailcloth to her Chosen hero a Long time ago."
"I'm sure the one the god made was much better, but I worked hard to give it to today's Champion ... I'm so happy you won, it wouldn't be the same giving it to anyone else. Thank you for keeping your promise."
"It was my pleaser...Now shall we finish this ritual?"
Ghirahim walked to the edge of the Statue and turned around to he could face Link, " Um... You do know what happens next don't you?"

"Oh course," Ghirahim purred, pulling the boy closer he gripped Links hair and kissed him.
Pulling away from the dazed Link, Ghirahim winked and let himself fall backwards off the Statue.
Turning around in mid air Ghirahim placed himself just above the center of the circle before realising his sailcloth.
Landing perfectly dead center ,he looked to see Link flying down on his loftwing .
"That was perfect, Ghirahim."
The younger boy's face still a little red from the kiss, glancing a few times at the clouds.

"It's such a nice day out...now that the ceremony is over...would you like  to go flying around the clouds together?"
"I would love to."

~

The air was cool on Ghirahims face, he always loved flying especially with Link by his side.
"Ghirahim!" Link leaned closer on his Loftwing.
"Today was amazing... I will always remember it.."
Ghirahim smiled ,"and the kiss?"
Link blushed ,"Especially."

"Where do we go from here?"
Link opened his mouth to reply before crying out as an explosion of light went off.
Looking away from each other Link's eye's widened with fear.
"What is that?!"
It was a tornado.. Ghirahim had seen one before but nothing like this, this was black and ominous looking.
"Link! Turn away!"

The storm got to close to the boys ,Ghirahim tried to pull away when he heard a scream.
Where was Link?!
"Link? Link?!" Ghirahim called, looking down he saw his friend falling, while being pulled closer to the tornado.
Diving forward ,the harsh winds were slapping at Ghirahims face.
He had to save Link! His shawl came undone and blew off of his pale shoulders but Ghirahim didn't care.

About to reach the side his bird was thrown back along with him from a sudden burst of wind.
And everything blacked out...
